The Kiwanis club of downtown New York honored today the congregation of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue of this city, on the anniversary of the founding of the oldest Jewish house of worship in the United States, more than 300 years ago.

Harry Frank, president of the club, told a luncheon meeting that the history of the congregation showed many contributions to the advancement of New York during the colonial and Revolutionary periods.
