The Israel Parliament today cancelled a law which empowered the Governor of Jerusalem to administer the property of the Russian Orthodox Church in that city. This law has been in existence since 1926. The property will now revert to the Soviet Union.
The Knesset has begun a debate on a number of amendments to the present income tax law. It is expected that further attempts to increase the number of wage earners paying income tax will meet with a good deal of opposition. David Zvi Pinkas, chairman of the Knesset finance committee, reported that the number of taxpayers had increased from 90,000 in April of 1948 to 120,000 in April, 1949.
