The last British soldier in Haifa will be evacuated Saturday, it was learned here today. Several military camps were abandoned yesterday by the British. Twelve Jews still held by the British here are expected to be freed over the week-end.
A resolution calling for the Setting up of a “territorial link” between Israel and Jewish Jerusalem was adopted here today at the closing session of the Mapai-Jewish Labor Party–conference. The meeting called for an “uncuttable” link which would “protect Jerusalem’s political future.”
In another resolution, the conference said that the people of Israel will not accept any immigration control, and explained that the Jewish state agreed to the four–weeks truce, which includes immigration restrictions, only because of the short period of time involved.
Declaring that “we have to use the truce period to organize our armed forces,” the Mapai parley also called for a unified national army. The imposition of a progressive emergency tax was also urged by the conference.
