Members of Spain’s Jewish community held their first public celebration of Chanukah since the Expulsion in 1492. Israel’s Sephardi chief rabbi, Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron, led more than 1,000 people at the ceremony in Gerona on the eighth night of the festival. The ceremony took place at a site where the city’s Jewish residents sought shelter from anti-Semitic mobs in 1391.
