A group of Memphis Protestant and Catholic clergymen have voiced opposition to a bill introduced in the Tennessee Legislature which would change election day in the state from Thursday to Saturday. They declared the change would be “offensive to our Jewish brethren and our Christian brothers, the Seventh-day-Adventists,” who also observe Saturday as their Sabbath. The bill would provide that state and county primary and general elections would be held on Saturdays. The clergymen represented the Catholic Diocese of Memphis, the Unitarian Church, the Westminster Presbyterian House, a Methodist church and two Baptist churches.
