All metal working plants in Israel remained shut today, the first day of a new work week, as the industry called a lockout in protest against new duties imposed by the government. The industry was also protesting tightened regulations which held down raw material imports.
The metal workers union last night instructed its members to disregard the announcement that the plants would be closed and to report for work as usual. The union announced that any lockout would be regarded and treated as “a breach of the collective labor agreement.”
