That Mexico would welcome Jewish immigrants providing they did not meddle in Mexican affairs is suggested in a leading editorial in the Mexican weekly, Todo, signed by the publisher, Felix Palvicini, and entitled “His Excellency Bernard Deutsch, Israelite Ambassador.”

The editorial, which appeared yesterday, describes the recent visit of the New York City Aldermanic President and the festivities honoring him. “Senor Deutsch could observe,” the editorial states, “that Mexicans are hospitable and affable and that his co-religionists enjoy all the guarantees compatible with our laws. He must have observed with his racial sagacity and minutely surveyed Mexico’s commercial possibilities. This undoubtedly will result in good propaganda for Mexico.

“No one can say that anti-foreignism or anti-Semitism exist in Mexico, although both these movements are fashionable today in other countries. We welcome foreigners,” the editorial concludes, “provided they respect our inalienable right to conserve our language, traditions and customs.”
