A number of consular employees now on duty in Eastern and Central European countries will soon be transferred to Germany and Austria where they will assist in the issuance of large numbers of visas authorized under the recently-passed Fellows-Wiley DP Immigration bill, it was learned here today.
Announcement of the contemplated transfer was made by Robert C. Alexander, assistant chief of the State Department Visa Division, testifying at a recent hearing of a Senate committee investigating immigration problems. He added that the release of the personnel from the countries to which they are now assigned would he made possible by a contemplated sharp curtailment of the issuance of several types of visas to natives of Eastern and Central European countries.
