More than 100 Lubavitch emissaries to the former Soviet Union met in Israel earlier this week. The Jan. 4-8 conference near Israel’s Dead Sea was funded by Lev Levayev, an Israeli diamond tycoon who was born in Uzbekistan and is the main sponsor of Lubavitch activity in the former Soviet Union.
