It was estimated today that ten to twenty thousand Jews will be affected by the new law banning Jews from engaging in such occupations as real estate, loan agencies, tourist bureaus and commercial travellers.

The most serious part of the law, which has been ignored or played down by the press, provides for cancellation of all permits of Jewish commercial travellers by Sept. 13,

only by special consent of the Economics Ministry. Such renewals will be practically unobtainable, unless the salesman’s work is construed as of direct benefit to the Reich.

This decision affects thousands of former professional men, civil servants and other displaced workers who have lately been earning their bread and butter in the difficult field of selling on the road and house-to-house canvassing. of the other affected occupations, only the realty field is important, although even here the anti-Jewish drive has been enforced for several years. Banning of Jewish Realtors becomes effective on Dec. 31.
