More than 20 percent of draft-eligible Israeli men were not drafted in 2000. Approximately half of them used religious reasons for not enlisting in the army. Most of the rest were rejected for medical reasons. More than 27 percent of draft-eligible women did not serve in 2000, mostly for religious reasons.
