A series of four lectures on music, the first to be given Thursday, will be presented by Adele T. Katz at the Young Men’s Hebrew Association, Ninety-second street and Lexington avenue. Beethoven and the development of the symphony will be discussed.

Robert Rudie, young violinist, will be soloist this week with the New York Civic Orchestra.

The long-awaited performance of the Shostakovich opera, “Lady Macbeth of Mzensk,” will take place at the Metropolitan Opera House Tuesday evening. The opera is being given for the benefit of the Composers Fund of America.

Arturo Toscanini and the Philharmonic – Symphony Orchestra were to present a program of Rossini, Beethoven and Wagner music Sunday.

Werner Janssen takes the baton at Carnegie Hall Thursday evening to lead the Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra through a program comprising numbers by Sacchini-Franko, Schubert and Sibelius.

After a three-year absence Beattrice Harrison, English cellist, was to give a recital in Town Hall Sunday evening. Margaret Harrison, her sister, will be at the piano.

Francis Macmillan, violinist, who has returned to the United States after a six-year sojourn in Europe, will give a recital at Town Hall Friday evening.

Ruth Posslet, young American violinist, will make her debut at Town Hall Monday evening with a program including Mozart’s Concerto in D major and several short pieces by Bloch and Arbos.

Eva Bandrowska, Polish coloratura soprano, will make her American debut in a Carnegie Hall recital February 24 and shortly afterward proceed to Cleveland, where she is scheduled to appear as soloist with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra.
