A Non-Sectarian Palestine Relief Committee with George Gordon Battle as its chairman was formed with offices at 305 Broadway, New York.
The vice-chairman of the relief committee is Acting District Attorney Ferdinand Pecora; John J. Grady, assistant treasurer of the Manufacturers Trust Company, is treasurer and the secretary is former Assistant Corporation Counsel Benjamin E. Greenspan. Checks should be made payable to the treasurer.
In announcing the new committee Mr. Greenspan, the secretary, said:
“The situation in Palestine has endangered the lives of all creeds alike. Jews and gentiles alike are herded in the stricken areas and distress to the degree extant there knows no bounds. The matter of relief is the concern of Americans regardless of religious difference, and this committee aims to sitisfy the desire of all coreligionists to fill the emergency.”
An organization to be known as the Aero Club of Palestine was formed in New York, “to provide funds to purchase and ship to Palestine at least 100 aeroplanes for the colonists there.”
Funds for an aviation field and training school, with the purpose of developing well-trained Jewish aviators in Palestine, will be sought, the announcement made by S. Kapferberg Maccobee, temporary chairman of the organization committee, declared.
The organization has established temporary headquarters at 111 Fifth Avenue, Room 602.
