The November cost of living index rose by 15.2 percent, the highest figure ever for November, the Central Bureau of Statistics announced today. During the first II months of the year, the C.O.L. index rose by 160.5 percent.
Histadrut Secretary-General Yerucham Meshel, who had predicted that by the end of the year the inflationary rate would exceed 190 percent, said the trade union federation would take immediate steps to ensure that workers’ incomes were not eroded. Workers would press strongly for the immediate payment of an interim C.O.L. allowance increase, he said.
Economists said that with the big increases in recent months, employees had lost about a third of their real incomes because of delays in payment of C.O.L. increases.
