Arce Michaelis, only Jewish member of the Victoria state legislature, has been elected Speaker of the newly-elected Legislative Assembly.

Abraham Landa, a Laborite, was reelected in the provincial elections which took place in New South Wales, preliminary returns indicated. He will be the only Jewish candidate elected to the state legislature. Three other Jewish candidates–one Laborite and two Liberals–were defeated.
