The establishment of a special colony in Palestine under the auspices of the Order Sons of Zion was decided upon at a meeting of the general committee of the Order. Twenty-five hundred dunams of land on which to establish the colony, will be purchased through the Jewish National Fund, the money to be raised among the various camps of the Order. David Podolsky was named chairman of the committee to direct this undertaking.
A general meeting of the 17 camps in New York will be called to inaugurate a membership campaign of the Order. Dr. Joseph Blustein, president of the Order Sons of Zion, and Louis Weiss, first vice-president, are directing the membership campaign.
The Jewish community of Philadelphia has contributed $2,839,897.75 for the completion of the building program of the Federation of Jewish Charities, it was announced by Dr. Jacob Billikopf, executive director of the organization, at a meeting of the Business Men’s Council. The collection of the fund began two and a half years ago. The cost of collection has been only one and one-half per cent of the total, the smallest percentage for collection ever achieved by any philanthropic organization of the country, Mr. Billikopf said. The goal of the fund is $4,000,000.
