President Truman and Gov. Thomas E. Dewey were last night requested to use their good offices to obtain de jure recognition for Israel by the Shomrim Society, an organization of 1,900 policemen of New York City.
The identical messages to both candidates also called for granting aid to the Jewish state under the Marshall Plan. The Society urged the lifting of the arms embargo against Israel and the complete rejection of the Bernadotte proposals. The massages asked Truman and Dewey to work for full implementation of the U.N. partition plan.
