An emergency program of vocational training for Jews repatriated to Poland from the Soviet Union was announced today by the World ORT Union. There are now about 10, 000 repatriated Jews awaiting resettlement in Poland.
The World ORT executive committee, meeting here during the past two days, approved the resolution to resume ORT work in Poland to meet “urgent needs.” The resolution declared assurances had been received from the Polish Government that ORT would have “freedom of action in setting up and directing schools and projects.”
These were listed as including “one accelerated course for adults, two pre-apprentice-ship classes in existing Jewish schools and technical aid to artisans.”
The executive committee, representing ORT branches in 27 countries, approved a target budget of $5, 000, 000 for the coming year. Dr. William Haber of Ann Arbor, Mich., presided at the meeting.
