The Palestine Arab Higher Committee today flatly rejected the recommendations of the Anglo-American inquiry committee. The decision, which was adopted following a special four-hour session of Arab leaders, came in reply to a request by the Governments of the United States and Britain that the Palestine Arabs submit their views on the inquiry committee’s report.
In rejection the report, the Arab Higher Committee emphasized that “only the Arabs have a right to decide on Palestine’s future.” The Committee advanced the following demands to the Governments of Britain and the United States: 1. Abrogation of the Mandate and immediate cessation of Jewish immigration and land sales to Jews. 2. Establishment of an Arab independent democratic state in Palestine which would be a member of the Arab National League. 3. All foreign troops should be withdrawn from Palestine immediately.
The Arab Office in Jerusalem today issued a statement declaring that the Arabs “refuse to recognize the legality of United States interference” in their problems in Palestine. The statement warns the American Government against seeking early admission of 100,000 displaced Jews to Palestine in accordance with the recommendation of the Anglo-American inquiry committee, which has been approved by President Truman.
