Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat and Syrian President Bashar Assad met for 45 minutes on the sidelines of an Arab summit in Jordan. The meeting, the first in years between Palestinian and Syrian leaders, focused on coordinating policy toward Israel. The Syrian president’s late father, Hafez Assad, never forgave Arafat for negotiating the 1993 Oslo accords with Israel.
