Valery Panov, the Jewish dancing star fired from the Soviet Union’s Kirov State Ballet in April for seeking immigration to Israel, has been confined to Leningrad by the authorities, the National Conference on Soviet Jewry said today. Additionally, the NCSJ said, the head of the troupe has refused Panov the character reference he needs for emigration.
