Seven Jewish organizations in Holland, including the executives of the Ashkenazi, the Sephardi and the Liberal Jewish congregation and The Netherlands Zionist Organization have publicly protested against the establishment of a Palestine Liberation Organization office in Holland.
In a feature interview in the leading Dutch daily, “NRC Handelsblaad,” the main Palestinian spokesman in The Netherlands, Mahmud S. Rabbani, who is honorary consul of Kuwait, in The Hague, stated that such an establishment is imminent.
The Jewish organizations said that this would be a slap in the face of those Jews and non-Jews in The Netherlands who feel themselves close to Israel. Moreover, such an office would be an infringement of public order, they declared. They pointed out that even if the Dutch government did not accord to such a PLO office diplomatic status, the PLO would interpret its establishment as diplomatic recognition by Holland.
