Philanthropist Charles Bronfman received an honorary doctorate from the University of Toronto. “He’s a very strong Canadian voice in world affairs, especially in the area of human rights,” said university spokeswoman Janet Wong. In 1997, Bronfman and his wife, Andrea, established a $2 million chair in Israel studies at the school.
