Despite the increasing seriousness of the anti-Semitic rioting engaged in by the Naras (National Radicals) and the pledge of the government to take steps to prevent attacks on the Jews, action of the authorities to maintain order today took the direction of raids on headquarters of Jewish organizations by the police to search for hidden arms and to prevent formation of Jewish self-defense units.
A new outrage was reported today when Naras, shortly after midnight, broke into Jewish residences on Bravorga street, Warsaw, and attacked the sleeping families. Neighbors hearing the victims’ cry for help, summoned the police, who caught two of the hooligans. Several wounded Jews required hospital treatment. Premises occupied by the Bund, the Jewish labor party and the Brith Trumpeldor, Revisionist youth organization, were raided by the police early today. No arms were discovered by the police but six Trumpeldorites were arrested.
A conference of Jewish professional organizations called for today to discuss the situation and to map out plans for a fight against anti-Semitism, did not take place as a result o the raids.
A session of the Club of Jewish Deputies in the Sejm was held yesterday at Cracow to consider the situation. In a statement issued after the meeting, the Jewish representatives declared that the attacks on the Jews were in reality a disguised attack on the present Polish regime. Both the anti-Semitic parties, the National Radicals and the National Democrats (Endeks), are violently anti-government. The deputies urged the government to display a firm hand in suppressing the excesses.
ENDEK PARTY SCHISM
A section of the Endek deputies in the Sejm withdrew today from the National Democratic party and constituted themselves a Narabloc in the Parliament. The Naras, who began as a seceding Endek faction, have rapidly gained a large following from among the ultra-extremist Endeks.
