A public opinion poll conducted immediately after release of the report of the commission of inquiry into the Beirut refugee camps massacre showed that Likud would continue to hold a substantial lead over the Labor Alignment if elections were held now.
The poll, commissioned by the Jerusalem Post, said the Likud would win 58 Knesset seats, up one seat from a similar poll conducted last month and only three short of a parliamentary majority. The latest poll gave Labor 40 seats, up one from the January poll.
A poll conducted by a different organization however, showed a drop in Likud’s popularity from 57 seats in January to 55 in February. According to that poll, the Labor Alignment would win 44 Knesset seats this month compared to 42 if elections had been held last month.
