Premier Henry of Ontario has ordered Attorney General Price to investigate the charge of discrimination against the Jews in the matter of fire insurance.
The Premier’s order is the result of a complaint registered by E. F. Singer, Jewish member of the Ontario Legislature. Deputy Singer stated that several insurance companies in Toronto have cancelled policies because their holders are Jews.
The Ontario Legislature at its last session enacted a law against discrimination on grounds of race. Penalty for infringement upon this law is cancellation of insurance license if proof can be adduced against the fire insurance companies discriminating against Jews.
It is rumored that the insurance companies have violated the law in order to test its validity in court. Long lists of cancelled policies of Jews have been submitted to the Premier.
The investigation is to be inaugurated next week.
