Rabbi Chaim Stern, editor of Reform prayer books including Gates of Prayer and Gates of Repentance, died Monday at 71. In addition to his work for the Central Conference of American Rabbis, Stern served for 33 years as senior rabbi of Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester, in Chappaqua, N.Y., and recently had taken an interim position with Temple Israel in Miami.
