Rabbi James G. Heller of Isaac M. Wise Center was elected to the Cincinnati Board of Education, polling 34,200 votes and running fourth on a list of six candidates.
There was much resentment here because pink slips urging Catholics to vote for three candidates were distributed in front of Catholic churches the Sunday before election.
Tabulation of first choice votes in Cincinnati’s proportional representation election showed Willis D. Gradison, only Jew on the Republican ticket, running eleventh with 6,561 first choices; Julian A. Pollak, only Jew on the Charter ticket, running twelfth with 5,346, and Abraham Friedman, independent, was twenty-first in a list of 22 candidates with 393. It is possible for both Gradison and Pollak to be elected if they receive sufficient transfers from those who have a surplus and get enough second choices from those eliminated under the system. Pollak is a member of the present City Council.
