Rumanian Red Cross officials are discriminating against Jews in the distribution of American relief supplies in the famine-strict Moldavian areas, the Bucharest daily Era Noun (New Era) charged today.
Quoting eye-witness accounts, the paper states that the Rumanian Red Cross teams now touring Moldavia act immediately on applications for relief submitted by non-Jews, while Jews are obliged to submit to a lengthy and detailed interrogation before receiving aid.
The paper says that the same Red Cross officials who failed to intervene when thousands of Jews died from hunger and cold in deportation camps to which they had been sent by the Antonescu regime are continuing their anti-Semitic activities. It demands an immediate investigation by Fred C. Sigerist, U.S. Red Cross delegate here.
