Ruth Dreifuss will become the first Jew to hold the office of president in Switzerland when she is named to that office on Wednesday. Dreifuss, who will also become the first woman to be president of Switzerland, inherits a country that is coping with an anti-Semitic backlash in the wake of international criticism for dealings between Swiss banks and Nazi Germany.
