The British government was severely criticized last night by Colonel Josiah Wedgwood, a non-Jewish member of the British Parliament, for the silence which it maintains in the face of the anti-Jewish persecutions in certain European countries.
The criticism was voiced by Colonel Wedgwood at a dinner given in his honor by the United Jewry Fellowship, at which David Lloyd George, Winston Churchill, Nahum Sokolow, Prof. Selig Brodetsky and other prominent figures were present.
A prediction that Palestine will play an important role within the British Empire was made at the dinner by Lord Melchett. Lord Melchett stressed the need for opening the Transjordan to Jewish immigration.
