Secretary of State Cordell Hull was the target today of a question bombardment by correspondents at his regular press conference. He limited his reply, however, to a declaration that the Government was observing with keen interest developments from day to day. Asked about Berlin reports that the American Consulate was preparing a protest on destruction of American-owned property, he said that he had no official information on that score.

In a sermon at the Holy Comforter Church in Washington yesterday, Archbishop Michael J. Curley of Baltimore denounced Adolf Hitler as a mad man and labeled the Nazi Propaganda Minister as “the cripple-minded Goebbels.” The Archbishop, spiritual leader of 300,000 Catholics, added: “If Hitler does not like what I say about him and his cripple-minded Minister of Propaganda, let him take up the matter with Secretary of State Cordell Hull as he did when Cardinal Mundelein criticized him.”
