Because of the widspread destruction in France, the activities of ORT in that country are of great assistance, Sen. Justin Godart, head of the United Relief in Europe, declared here in a speech at a reception in his honor sponsored by the ORT Emergency Committee at the Hotel Pierre.

Sen. Godart has been appointed by the French government to handle the complex problem of restoring looted property confiscated by the Nazis. He announced that he has more than 3,000,000 cubic metres of furniture to dispose of in that connection. “I was amazed to find among that property,” he said, ” a number of big boxes of toys not new toys, but old and broken ones, taken from poor Jewish children befor they were sent to concentration camps.” This is a symbol of the systematic destruction the Germans brought to French spirit, morals and life as a whole, he declared.
