Shimon Peres was ousted as chairman of Israel’s Labor Party in a major electoral upset. Trade union chief Amir Peretz won 42 percent of votes in a Labor primary Wednesday, beating Peres’ 40 percent and defying expectations that the 82-year-old incumbent would easily retain the party helm. “I expected a better evening,” Peres, Israel’s vice premier, told reporters.
