Karkewich asserted that Gellis had deliberately set a trap for Simon in reprisal for his refusal to bring influence to bear to quash the summons. Among the character witnesses appearing for Simon yesterday was Rabbi Nachman Ebin, chairman of the Kashruth Association.

Assistant District Attorney James G. Wallace for the prosecution will sum up this morning and the case will then go to the jury.
