Singapore has appointed its first ambassador to Israel. Singapore’s government announced this week that Foo Meng Tong, 54, would present his credentials Thursday to Israeli President Ezer Weizman.

Foo, also the ambassador to France, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland, will continue to work from his office in Paris.

Israel and Singapore established diplomatic relations in 1969, but Singapore never opened an office in Israel.
