A new youth center, named after the well-known American Jewish actress, Sophie Tucker, was dedicated today at the village of Beit Shemesh, near this city. The center has special facilities for training 150 immigrant children in a number of trades, including carpentry and locksmithing.
Miss Tucker had donated $50,000 toward establishment of the center. After the dedication ceremonies, in which Miss Tucker participated with representatives of the Jewish Agency executive and the Ministry of Labor, the actress was awarded honorary citizenship in the village of Beit Shemesh.
