The Catholic League blasted the Forward for an editorial criticizing a threat to deny religious rites to pro-choice politicians. In its front-page editorial last Friday, the Forward said a call by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for Catholic institutions to deny honors to pro-choice politicians is “an affront to democracy” and a “capricious application of church morality.” William Donohue, president of the Catholic League, called the editorial “anti-Catholic” and said “it is none of the Forward’s business what disciplinary measures the bishops decide.”
