The chickpea holds a clue to the origins of agriculture, according to an article based on Israeli research that was published this month in Science magazine. Chickpeas, wheat, barley, lentils and peas were grown in the Fertile Crescent some 10,000 years ago in what is today the border between Turkey and Syria.
