The Jerusalem Municipality opened an underpass intended to ease traffic near the Old City walls. The 1,500-foot tunnel road stretching roughly between the Jaffa Gate and Damascus Gate opened this week after six months of work. City planners hope the $12 million project will help prevent the congestion that has disrupted pedestrian traffic to the Old City and covered its walls with soot.
