The Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs gave a leadership award to Jose Maria Aznar, the former Spanish prime minister. Aznar, a conservative, strongly backed the Bush administration’s war in Iraq, a stance that contributed to his loss of power in 2004. Aznar received the award Monday night in a ceremony hosted by Sen. David Vitter (R-La.). It was JINSA’s first Global Leadership Award, which a release said is intended to “to pay tribute to those international leaders who have demonstrated resolve and wisdom in countering the current threats to our Western, democratic way of life.”
