The student union of Montreal’s Concordia University banned any activity by Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. This week’s 8-1 vote by the university’s student government came in response to Hillel fliers promoting Mahal, a volunteer program for the Israeli army. The student union, which comes under Canada’s Ministry of Education, called the act a violation of Canadian law, a rationale national Hillel officials called “outrageous.”
