The Supreme Court has given the Defense Ministry seven days to explain why a soldier who is a conscientious objector was ordered to serve beyond Israel’s “green line.” An attorney for Godi Elgazi, a member of Rakah, told the court that his client had made his conscientious objector’s status clear before he enlisted and said he would be willing to serve within Israel’s pre-June 1967 borders but not beyond them. Elgazi’s attorney said that such requests were granted in the past in the cases of conscientious objectors but that his client was turned down.
