The United States thanked Turkey for urging Syria to intervene in the case of a kidnapped Israeli soldier. “What Turkey did that was very helpful is to go to Damascus and to say to the Syrians they need to use all of their leverage to help this take place,” Condoleezza Rice, the U.S. secretary of state, said Wednesday in a joint appearance in Washington with her Turkish counterpart, Abdullah Gul.
