There are many thousands to-day who feel that in Marion they have lost a very real and a very dear friend, the “Daily Herald”, the organ of the Labour Party, writes in an editorial to-day on the death of Dr. Marion Phillips.
She was filled with a deep hatred of injustice, it writes, and with a deep sympathy for suffering: she brought to every struggle on which she embarked a tireless energy and a splendid courage that were infectious. She was a patient
and accurate investigator and an admirable organiser and invaluable as a member of the Labour Party’s head quarters staff. On occasion her wit could bite sharply, but no more kindhearted woman ever lived.
Even those who disagreed with her views, the Conservative “Daily Telegraph” writes, realise that she is a conspicuous loss to her Party, one of a series they have sustained lately. Those who attended the Scarborough Conference of the Labour Party in October will find it difficult, the “Telegraph” adds, to realise that Dr. Marion Phillips has gone. The chief woman officer of the Party was very much in evidence during that week, both in the business and social sections, and she looked the picture of health.
