President Truman today designated pre-war imnigration quotas for Germany and Austria for the remainder of this fiscal year. The proclamation issued by the President provides for the entrance of 25,957 Germans and 1,413 Austrians. The quotas apply also to each fiscal year following that of 1945-46, and take effect immediately.
The proclamation states that these quotas “are designed solely for purposes of compliance with the pertinent provisions of the Immigration Act of 1924 and are not to be regarded as having any significance extranecus to this subject.” She quotas are determined by the Secretaries of State, Commerce and the Attorney General. The pre-war quota of 27,370 for Germany included Austria.
