Truman Asked to Prevent Deportation of Jewish Refugees Who Entered U.S. As Stowaways

An appeal to President Truman to give “special consideration” to the case of two young Jewish refugees, who stowed away on American ships in an effort to reach this country and are now facing return to Europe, was today made public by Abner Green, executive secretary of the American Committee for protection of Foreign Born.

In the case of one of the stowaways, Ghidu Davideson, the Committee pointed cut that his entire family was murdered by the Nazis in the Birkenau concentration camp, while the second refugee, Jehuda Rubinfeld, lost all his family except his mother at the Buchenwald camp. Both the young men have relatives living in the United States.
