An agreement has been reached in principle for the export to Israel of $2,000,000 worth of Turkish agricultural products, which will restore the trade balance in the commerce between the two countries, it was disclosed today.
Israel is trying to buy more from Turkey to permit more sales to Turkey. The latest figures, those for April, show that Israel exported $1,851,000 worth of products to Turkey, a considerable increase over previous months. The trade balance is now $2,000,000 in favor of Israel and Turkish importers currently hold import licenses from Israel of about $4,500,000.
The new Turkish exports to Israel will include fruits, skins and probably cattle. Israel has been selling to Turkey cement, tires, antibiotics, chemicals, paints, glass and cardboard boxes. Israel’s efforts to buy more Turkish products are hampered by the high prices of Turkish goods but trade continues to develop.
