Two members of the U.S. House of Representatives asked Secretary of State Colin Powell to redefine which terrorist groups have “global reach” and make Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad targets of the U.S.-led international campaign against terrorism. Majority Whip Tom Delay (R-Tex.) and Tom Lantos (D-Calif.), the ranking member on the International Relations Committee, also asked that Iran and Syria be made to renounce terrorism and close terrorist operations in areas they control before being allowed to join the international coalition.
