The Arab countries have shown no desire to find a solution to the Arab refugee problem, with the result that the countries supporting the United Nations activities for aid to those refugees “are getting pretty tired of it all,” Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel’s Foreign Minister, declared here today.
Mrs. Meir made her statement upon returning home after a three-week absence, during which she attended the current session of the U. N. General Assembly, in New York, and conferred with most of the leading Foreign Ministers of U. N. member states, including U. S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk and French Foreign Minister Maurice Couve de Murville. During her absence from Israel, she also conferred in London and Paris with top statesmen of the British and French Governments.
Israel’s Foreign Minister said she found general understanding among leading diplomats and foreign policy chiefs of Israel’s position on many issues, including Israel’s concern regarding the recent spate of raids into Israel by saboteurs belonging to El Fatah, many of whom operate from bases in Jordan. But on the Arab refugee question, she said, there is a general feeling among U. N. delegations that “an impossible situation” is developing.
